Doctors there were working with a group of hospital patients with type 2 diabetes who were referred to as the \u201c300 Club\u201d because they all weighed over 300 pounds and all had cholesterol and blood sugar readings over 300.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Discovery<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While in the hospital under medical supervision, &#8220;300 Club&#8221; patients were put on a very low calorie protein sparing (i.e., conserving muscle tissue) liquid fast.
